Quality of Life and Safety

Highest standard of living worldwide

A stable economy, a high level of safety and a pristine environment are a given for Austrians. Therefore, Austria was awarded for the highest standard of living worldwide in the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2007.

Safety and Stability

Austria is one of the most stable countries in the world when it comes to politics, economy and the legal system. Austria’s low crime rate lies considerably below that of the United States or many other European countries. Vienna has been considered Europe’s safest city for years. Film crews naturally benefit from this amenity Austrians take for granted. People feel safe at any time of the day or night in Austria.

Culture and Entertainment

Whether it is opera, operetta, music, theater, concerts or exhibitions, culture and entertainment are part of everyday life in Austria. Many movies theaters screen original-language films, especially in English and French.

Ecology

Austria protects its landscape and environment. Austrians and visitors alike benefit from Austria’s clean air and the clear lakes, most are of drinking water quality.

Sports

Austria offers world class skiing. With countless other action-packed outdoor activities, Austria has become a paradise for the recreational and professional athlete: challenging mountain bike trails, moderate bike courses over rolling hills and flat family bike trails along river beds – there’s something for bikers of all abilities and levels. Others enjoy the great selection of rafting trips, canyoning, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, hang gliding and parachuting. When the weather cooperates, a simple dip in a clear river, a sailing trip across a beautiful lake, a refreshing swim or scuba diving adventure might do the trick. Horseback riders are always welcome in Austria, i.e. in the rider’s model village Ampfelwang or on the long trails of the Muehlviertler Alm, the Styrian Horseshoe Tour or at the Horseback El-Dorado Carinthia). Golf and fishing trips to Austria have found an equally enthusiastic audience. Austria’s spa landscape has grown dramatically over the past years, offering thermal baths, healing springs, health-, vitality-, and spa hotels featuring international products and first-class service.

Accomodation and Gastronomy

Film crews enjoy Austria’s hospitality and culinary delights. Over the past years, Austria has become a true gourmet’s paradise. First class hotels and restaurants lure guests with excellent service and the highest quality standards. The acclaimed “The Leading Hotels of the Worlds” group includes Austrian hotels such as the Hotel Sacher and the Grand Hotel in Vienna, the Hotel Sacher in Salzburg and the Turnhers Alpenhof in Zuers am Arlberg.

Austria’s rich culinary resources range from international gourmet restaurants to local eateries with traditional home-cooked meals. The 2005 edition of Gault Millau gave the Steiereck in Vienna, Oberauer in Werfen, Hubertus in Filzmoos and Eselboeck in Schuetzen am Gebirge four-star ratings ranking them among the world’s best restaurants. An additional 136 restaurants with one- and two-star ratings further underline Austria’s leading role in the international culinary scene.

Tipping is common practice in Austria’s hotels and restaurants (in restaurants, an optional 10%). Smaller amounts are given to taxi drivers.
