Rivers and harbors
Filming on the Danube, the largest river in Austria, is free on registered ships. For permits, apply three weeks in advance at the Senior Navigation Authority of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Innovation and Technology. The river can only be closed for filming under exceptional circumstances. When using a non-registered vessel (for example an antique ship) a special transportation permit is required. For any filming on the banks of Danube river which, in any way, impairs river traffic (e.g. strobe lights or fireworks), a permit must be obtained from the Senior Navigation Authority of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Innovation and Technology.
The DDSG Blue Danube is the largest and most modern operator of day trips and adventure trips around Vienna and into the Wachau wine region. A charter ship, the MS Admiral Tegetthoff, is available for productions. The Lower Austrian company Brandner offers both a ship (MS Austria) and a wooden raft, suitable for 150 people. The raft operates a 32 mi (20 km) stretch on the Danube.

Filming in ports requires a special permit from the responsible river or harbor administration. If ship operators are impeded in unloading their cargo as a result of temporary closure, additional fees will apply.
